The Rooms, Cabin & Main House at Alders Plantation
Ships Ahoy, Matey!! Shades of sea blue highlight this room that includes mariner maps of the Gulf Islands, tall sailing ship models, sailing magazines and an authentic 1968 seashell collection from Tahiti and Fiji. The highlight of this room is a Robert Bateman-design stained glass window of his famous “killer whale” print. Located on the quiet and private northwest corner of the main house, the large picture-window has a direct view of property’s main waterfall and Japanese maple tree gardens. The queen-sized bed with ultra-thick duvet, large closet, pair of terry cloth robes and private bath with rainfall shower complete this nautical theme.
Sea Shell Collection
Facing east to capture the morning sunrise, the executive-style Jungle Room is fully appointed with a walk-through closet and private ensuite bathroom that features oak accents, brass fixtures and a combination bath-shower with triple shower head (jet, rainfall, hand). Tastefully decorated with honey-toned grass-cloth, one-inch-thick deep sea-blue carpeting, cane and rattan furniture, the room accents include a Mackie buffalo print, Indonesian masks, a copper plate from Ankara, authentic brass lamps from India and a carved-hardwood elephant from Zimbabwe. The queen-sized bed with 600-count Egyptian cotton linens, four king-sized pillows and a grass-print ultra-thick duvet, plus velour robes and slippers add further elegance for your stay. The ten-foot ceiling, large windows and private entrance through double French doors further complement this suite. Enjoy morning coffee or an evening glass of wine in your private sitting area on the verandah with views of the bald eagle perch tree, front gardens and Ganges Harbour.
Dare we say that this two-room suite has it all? This 410 sq. ft. fully self-contained garden suite can sleep up to four (one queen-sized bed, queen-sized hide-a-bed in couch and single person cot) has two private entrances, private ensuite bath complete with steam shower and jacuzzi jets, three skylights, sitting area with table and chairs viewing the largest waterfall and gardens through floor-to-ceiling windows, two private decks (one covered) and a fully-equipped kitchenette. The ten-foot ceilings, radiant floor heating, vaulted ceiling with ceiling fans, library and 32” Sony flat-screen SD TV are matched by velour robes, slippers, thick bath sheets, additional aroma therapy soaps and 600-count Egyptian cotton sheets. Parents can have total privacy by sliding closed the 8-foot hanging doors, giving the kids their own room.
Cabin on Alders Pond
This private and rustic self-contained cabin is nestled on the side of the plantation property in a woodland garden amongst mature western red cedar and Douglas fir trees and overlooks the main duck pond. The full bathroom has its own water heater and the kitchenette (frig, microwave, sink, blender, coffee machine) is stocked with Salt Spring Coffee and tea from Ganges Tea Emporium. “Central-heating” is provided by a wood stove in the front room and vented to the inner bedroom and bathroom. The inner bedroom features a single-person cot and the couch in the front room features a queen-sized hide-a-bed with oversized foam mattress. If more modern accoutrements than the small nature library are desired, the front room features a large 50” flat-screen LED HD television and guest laptop computer.
Enjoy morning coffee on the covered front deck overlooking the duck pond and nesting boxes frequented by junco, chickadees, robins, towhee, nuthatch, finch and woodpeckers. A complete picture library of the fauna of Alders Plantation with bird identification chart is provided in the cabin’s front room.
Main House & Surrounds
The three main room-suites are located in the main plantation house. We differ from most Bed & Breakfasts in that we welcome our guests to use the entire house throughout their stay, including daytime hours. The well-appointed kitchen can be used for food storage and light prep, but no cooking is allowed. The authentic cherry-wood dining table seats six, but guests are welcome to take food and drink to tables on any of the property’s four decks or stone patios. If the weather is cool during the evenings, there is a variable-temperature propane heater on the 520 sq. ft. covered verandah. The plantation’s great room features ten-foot ceilings, hardwood floors, a triangular wood-burning heatilator fireplace, stereo system wired to all bedrooms, CD and DVD library, and a 60-inch flat screen LED HD Smart TV with PVR and HDMI for wireless hook-up of computer video games for the kids. Guests have full access to all areas of the gardens, including the 700+ feet of garden paths that meander around seven waterfalls and five ponds, stone patio with fire pit, northside BBQ deck that overlooks the turtle pond and clematis-laden covered verandah with exquisite views of the bald eagle perch tree and Ganges Harbour. Volleyball, badminton and croquet sets are available for use on the front lawn. By exiting through the lower garden gate, guests can take a 4-min walk through the woods to the village of Ganges and avoid the parking hassles, which are most challenging on weekends.
The entire Main House can be rented as a vacation rental by the week or by month with, or without the cabin.
